“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity”

We’re a pair of relative newcomers who have taken up bushwalking later in life, and just happen to live in southern Tasmania where there’s an abundance of fantastic destinations right on our doorstep. Or at least not far from it.
This website details our walks, choice of gear and other tips you might find useful before bashing up a peak or into a muddy rainforest.

Walk Reports
Walls of Jerusalem National Park
Having heard great things about 'The Walls', we decided to head up last January. In order to get an early start we set up camp at Mole Creek Caravan Park the night before walking. This is a lovely park with a very helpful owner. As caravan parks go, however, a...
Mt Field East
Report originally published at bushwalk.com I wasn't able to find too much recent information re Mt Field East (quite possibly my poor searching skills....), so thought I'd report on our day out today. We started from the Lake Fenton car park at about 1045 and headed...
Mt Rufus
The Mt Rufus circuit is most often walked as a day walk, but we decided to camp up top for the night. We completed the circuit in a clockwise direction, so took the shorter, steeper route up. It was a good start spotting a tiger snake shortly after leaving the...
Hartz & Snowy Peaks
Alison came over to Tasmania for a visit so we decided to take her up to Hartz. Since we'd already been before, we decided to walk the circuit that incorporates Mt Snowy rather than doing the standard re-trace. I thoroughly enjoyed this alternate track, however it...
Hartz Mountain
Hartz Mountain was our first night out in a (borrowed) tent. It took us under two hours to drive from Hobart. There is a large shelter with toilets at the start of the walk. The walk in is easy, with a bit of a climb at the end. We managed to find a flat enough...
Mt Field
We've done a number of trips to Mt Field. Below are some of the areas with a brief description, as well as my memory will allow! Lake Dobson to Twisted Tarn (via Lake Webster) - January 2015 I believe taking the Lake Webster track to Twisted Tarn is a less common...
Higgs Track / Lake Nameless
I would count our Higgs Track walk as one of my favorites. We headed up what was a much steeper track then either of us anticipated. From memory it took us longer than the estimated time generally recorded in track notes - two hours for a distance of around 2kms....
