The Mt Rufus circuit is most often walked as a day walk, but we decided to camp up top for the night.  We completed the circuit in a clockwise direction, so took the shorter, steeper route up.  It was a good start spotting a tiger snake shortly after leaving the visitor centre.

Both of us had just recovered from some kind of virus, and I in particular, really struggled with the last stretch to the top.

We enjoyed the views for a while before making our way to the saddle between Rufus and Hugel.  Here we set up camp, had some dinner and enjoyed the sunset.  We then retired to the tent and spent an uneventful night (slight breeze and no rain).

The following day we packed up and set off down the mountain passed some impressive rock formations.  This led us down to the flat, where we walked through a great change of landscape; very green before taking us back into light forest.  Right near the end we were having a cuppa on the edge of the track, and another Tiger slid past us through the forest.

This was an excellent walk and I’d definitely recommend it.
