I would count our Higgs Track walk as one of my favorites.  We headed up what was a much steeper track then either of us anticipated.  From memory it took us longer than the estimated time generally recorded in track notes – two hours for a distance of around 2kms.  Once up the top we headed across the swampy plain and had some lunch at Lady Lake Hut.

After lunch we headed along what appeared to be a track leading away from behind the hut.  It became apparent that this wasn’t the direction we were meant to be going, so took some time to correct our mistake with the GPS we carry.  We lost about half an hour or so with this mistake, and in retrospect it was energy wasted that we would need later in the day!

We made our way to Lake Nameless via the track between Lake Lucy Long and Westons Lake.  This was all relatively flat, either rock or scrub.  Although cairned we found that we wandered off the track a number of times.  This was easily corrected with the map and GPS.

As we approached Lake Nameless we could see our destination, Iron Stone Hut, at the far end.  It seemed a long way off as we were both quite tired by this stage.

When we finally arrived at the hut around 5pm (6 hrs) we were grateful to find sticks/wood in the wood box.  We spent the night in the hut, and had a visit from a possum who peered at us through the window.
