Alison came over to Tasmania for a visit so we decided to take her up to Hartz. Since we’d already been before, we decided to walk the circuit that incorporates Mt Snowy rather than doing the standard re-trace.  I thoroughly enjoyed this alternate track, however it was difficult to follow and required quite a lot of pushing through scrub.  Any bare arms/legs were in for some significant scratching, and I was glad for my canvas Mont pack!

We stopped off at Lake Esperance on the way since we’d skipped it last time.

At the track junction we made our way up through the scrub until we popped out at Arthur Tarn. We then continued on to Emily Tarn, where we set up camp before climbing Snowy Peak without the overnight pack.

After a peaceful night we packed up camp and headed up Hartz.  Once up here you have to walk along the ridge to meet up with the well-used track back down.  It was quite windy on this day, which made both Alison and Andrew a bit wary.  Neither of them are lovers of heights.  We made our way back to the car fairly efficiently as the weather was starting to come in.
